Mexico Decriminalizes ALL Drugs

(for personal use...)

http://features.csmonitor.com/global...izes-drug-use/

Quote:
Now not just marijuana, but cocaine, LSD, and heroin will be tolerated for personal and limited use. That means about four joints, or half a gram of cocaine, or 50 milligrams of heroin. Bigger quantities, sales, and public consumption are still strictly forbidden.

Officials here say the aim is to free up both resources and jail space so that authorities can focus efforts on big-time traffickers wreaking havoc in Mexico. “This frees us from a flood of small crimes that have saturated our federal government and allows the authorities to go after big criminals,” said Bernardo Espino del Castillo, who works in the attorney general’s office in Mexico.

The problem is not with end user possesion and use of drugs. Its the Cartels that make a fortune from drugs being completly illegal and giving them a black market to sell to. Legalization, Taxation and Regulation is the only way to effectively combat drug use and al of the murders and corruption attached to it.

I don't know if I would go that far with it

How is it different? And would that difference prevent a decrim/regulation strategy from working here? If that doesn't work, then what do you propose as a way to deal with the problems illegal drugs create? Also, it would probably be useful to look at the causes of any differences between drug culture here and in Europe. I suspect that the way we treat drugs here has a lot to do with our policy towards them, meaning that if we changed our drug policy we would also change the way people treat and use drugs.

I do not know why you choose to mock me. Clearly you are incapable of providing a response.

Hear, hear! 'Tis a shame that so many lump Europeans together. Truly shameful.
