Never thought I'd say Thanks Corax! But, I really needed to make a list of those.

Someone claimed that they watched NPDA 2006 final online, but I have never seen it. My understanding is that both someone from NPDA and Jason Steck were filming the round- maybe both could respond to confirm or deny this.
Also, SoCalian, I think links to rounds would be appreciated. Every once in a while, people want to compare NPDA and APDA, and having rounds to watch can ground the discussion in reality and let people decide for themselves. Lastly, there are more debates online at http://debate.uvm.edu/watchdebate.html They include: 2001 NPDA Final Debate Government: Univ of California at Berkeley BT Opposition: University of Wyoming OW Denver, Colorado, USA. March, 2001 2001 NPDA Quarterfinal Debate Government: Truman State University AS Opposition: Univ of Californoia at Berkeley BT Denver, Colorado, USA, March, 2001 2001 NPDA Octafinal Debate Government: Univ of California at Berkeley JK Opposition: Creighton University GL Denver, Colorado, USA, March, 2001 2001 NPDA Semifinal Debate Government: Univ of Wyoming OW Opposition: Truman State University MS Denver, Colorado, USA. Thanks Mike. It'd also be great to get this thread to link to the videos that are out there... or audio files.
I know last year, Brandon Whearty of Palomar began recording audio files of rounds he was judging. If anyone knows him or if he checks NB, it'd be great to start getting some of those online as well. |

This reminded me that I've still never seen the 2006 NPDA final video anywhere. Was I lied to about it being online?
Also, from my understanding, both Steck and NPDA taped it- please backchannel so I can get a copy. Mike Cal 06 |

I've heard tell that the 2006 NPDA final recording is quite professional. I believe the person to contact about getting your copy, Mike, is Brent Northup.

On the contrary, there was nothing professional about the NPDA 2006 final round.

Nor would I ever, ever, indicate as much. Don't overlook this word, Darryl: "recording." It is, to use the parlance of our time, key.

I'll sticky it, but because people are looking to this thread as a resource, I'll remind everyone to try to keep it on topic.

Thanks to all for putting these debates up here. I intend to watch and learn from each of them - on an incremental basis - starting today.

As a high school debater without an NPDA-trained coach, these videos have been an invaluable resource to me. Thanks.
High School Parli is still finding its way as an event, and by giving a good (or at least realistic) example, this page helps get the event through the rougher periods.

To Socalian and any other observers and/or listeners, etc., et al.:
AUGHHHHHHH! Other than that expression of pain about having the 1969 NDT final round surfacing on this board, I have little to say except: (1) Please go to the NDT home page, look at the pictures of "action in the (1969) final round, etc.*", and compare those pictures with the photo gallery from last year's NDT. There are three obvious differences: (A) The 1969 photos are in black and white (no, they weren't taken by Matthew Brady, but damn close). (B) All four contestants are in business attire. (C) All four contestants are actually LOOKING AT the audience. (2) Please take my word for the proposition that Seikel and I were a much better team than this transcript/tape demonstrates. We went to thirteen tournaments in 1968-69. We placed first and 9 and second at 4 (including NDT). Maybe we had a worse elim round performance than the NDT finals, but - if we did - I can't recall it. (3) Am I still hurting about the loss? "Yes" and "No." "Yes," because I felt then (and still do) that I dishonored myself, Dave, Bill English and everyone associated with UH debate, my school, my family, the City of Houston, and the State of Texas with my piss-poor performance. "No," because Harvard certainly "deserved" to win that round (I'm amazed we got two ballots), Harvard certainly "deserved" to be the national champions, and - taken as a whole - my college debate experience has served me well throughout my life. MHM *the fact that the caption under my picture has my name - misspelled - is ironic at best...

I know of at least three rounds that were recorded. I'm sure Jason will work to get them up as soon as he gets back from NPDA.

With permission from Danny Cantrell and Jason Steck, I've added the above videos to http://www.parlidebate.com/recordings.php?format=NPDA
(I also added the round directly above this post; I hope that's alright with you Odin-X) Some of the round information is missing (and some is probably incorrect). If anyone can help me fill in the gaps I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Matt (I'm also looking for NPDA-related links & a few 'About' paragraphs if anyone has suggestions) |
