------------------------------------------
Hi all. I was hoping to establish a thread here on NB that compiled as many tournament dates as possible into one place. I know tournament dates are scattered across NB—but that’s just it, they are scattered; and I know that the NPDA site ends up having a fairly comprehensive calendar—but to my knowledge that’s not up for 2012-13 and I don’t know when it will be. I imagine that some teams are already starting to make some rudimentary travel choices for next year (I know we are already doing so, as is our regional forensics conference) and there are also some programs that may be trying to decide if/when they might hold a tournament and would like to know what dates are optimal. It just seems like a useful resource to have. I apologize if this seems redundant or if you feel it unnecessary—but if that’s the case I suppose you can ignore this thread ;-). If someone has a better solution, please share.

So, what I’d request is a post here to this thread with the following info:
-- Tournament Dates (actual days of debate competition)
-- Tournament Location (School and City)
-- URL for Tournament Invite if available
-- Number of Preliminary Rounds/Swing Status
-- Number of anticipated divisions
-- Will there be topic areas?

If there seems to be some important bit of info I’m missing, please mention it. I will try to compile the tournament info into a monthly schedule that I will periodically update on this thread by editing this first initial post so as to always have the calendar at the top of the thread and will then bump occasionally.

Again, my intention is just to do this for everyone’s convenience (including my own).

GSL Swing

Will be Jan. 4-6.

This year we will be:

1. Considering STRONGLY the elimination of topic areas. Let us know your thoughts.

2. Considering STRONGLY including CX/Prep time (i.e., alternative use time)

3. WILL diversify food. Todd Graham WILL get his Chipotle desire fulfilled, or something comparable, but local.

4. WILL continue to host IE's, PARLI, and LD, but will separate the schedules and prohibit cross entry in order to create a more efficient, i.e., more livable, schedule. Final schedule will be determined following word of NPTE decisions on qualifications, etc.

5. WILL respond to your constructive feedback and great ideas as long as they fit within our immutable institutional constraints.

6. WILL feature a reception for all community college students hosted by the UofU's office of recruitment and enrollment.

email me at m dot middleton at utah dot edu. Your feedback is important and we are committed to responding to the excellent ideas about change being considered in our community.

Have a great, safe, productive summer!

Mike

This is awesome. Do other schools do this? This just strikes me awesome idea that goes with the "grow the activity" thread.

Chuck et al.,

My vote is for the last weekend in September. The Feb. dates would be tough given that we're likely at UCLA and Whitman.

As Ben said, if it's the last weekend in September, we won't/can't be there. That would either be on top of Loyola or be our third weekend in a row.

Colorado College and Texas Tech University are happy to announce the dates for the Mile High Swing.

On Jan 18-20th, 2013, Mile High will return back to beautiful Colorado Springs at the campus of Colorado College. We will keep the traditional Mile High swing format and continue to have Joe Gantt at the helm of tabulation. An invite will be forthcoming in a few weeks.

We look forward to seeing folks in Colorado this winter.

Concordia University and Irvine Valley College will host a swing (name TBA) on October 12th-14th. Here are the details:

IRVINE VALLEY TOURNAMENT - must choose between IE's and NPDA
Fri, Oct 12 (& morning of Sat, 13th) - 4 round NPDA tournament, anticipate break to Octofinals on CUI's campus
Fri, Oct 12 - 2 rounds (in 2 patters) with break to finals in all 11 AFA/PRP IE Events on IVC's campus

CONCORDIA TOURNAMENT - must choose between IE's and LD
Full-service IE/LD/NPDA tournament, October 13-14:
6 rounds NPDA tournament with anticipated break to Octofinals
4 round NFA LD tournament with anticipated break to Quarterfinals
2 rounds (in 2 patters) of all IE's, semis in some events, finals in most.

As part of your entry fees, we will again feed competitors in our cafeteria. It is all-you-can-eat and we plan to give enough time to sit and actually eat.

We will have more details later in the summer, but for now, plan on joining us!

The swing portion of this will not be happening this year. Concordia is unable to host this year, but Irvine Valley is investigating options for hosting on the same weekend, all on the IVC campus.

As Gary Rybold learns/knows more, he will likely be posting that information here.

Thanks.

Given that there's no host/dates--any indication on how close we are? I'm trying to hook myself up with an assist job at a high school, but I need to figure out my March schedule.

It is my understanding that discussions are proceeding with San Joaquin Delta College (two blocks away from Pacific) being the host and the dates will precede NPDA (March 16-19 IIRC).

GGI and GGO

I find it improtant to note that Berkley has scheduled their tournamnet in the same geographical area on the same weekend as the NCFA(Nor Cal For Ass) Golden Gate Season Opener.

Are we really going to divide the community like this? Why not one debate tourney at a time?

Phil

I am assuming that Whitman will still be a swing, no??

Also, will the Northwest Warmup @ Bellevue have topic areas this year?

Thanks.

Not necessarily a better solution, but a perm - please make sure to also send this information to me directly... my username at bethel.edu. I want to make sure things get into the COFO calendar, and my time at Net Ben tends to decrease as the season starts.

Also, the COFO website will be starting a new section for workshops of all types (parli, policy, LD, etc.). So, please send that information too.

Thanks!

GGI is tentatively going to be on October 20-21, and UPS will (not tentatively) be the following week (26-28). We are committed to not overlapping with UPS (which is one of the cornerstones of our schedule) and so we are moving our date from the announced date. I apologize for the confusion and we'll have an invitation out quite soon.
