I played it once a long long time ago... my understanding is that the games take hours. I have some friends who were really really good in high school... perhaps I could get one of them to play for me.
um, can I just say, Jesus christ, what a challenge? Wow-I need to go to the board game store...

I'm pretty good at Risk, actually. I'll most likely be able to win one of the games for ATCQ.
You can check out Mission Risk (http://download.com.com/3000-2119-1583723.html?tag=lst-0-1) if you need to practice. I downloaded and bought it a year or so ago. Don't worry- it's an easy game to learn, especially on computer.
Hopefully we can pull this one off. <img src=http://www-scf.usc.edu/~link/netbenefits/emoticons/shipley.gif ALT=":shipley">

I'm going to Montana for the weekend, but if we can schedule in the games before then we can probably win.

One strat is to control Australia with all of your forces on the one country that someone can attack through. You get extra armies(2) for it. Then you want to make sure no one else gets a continent and don't over expand yourself. I really wish I was available for all of this. I hate that I have to make money all day! Let me know how I can help.

South America is also an excellent continent to control. Better than Australia, in fact, because you can branch out into North America and Africa. The person who controls SA is the most likely to win the game.
Phil also refers to what's know as toeholding. When you've conquered a continent, it's always best to extend your control just a little (one province) onto the next continent. If I had SA, I would also be sure to invade Mexico and West Africa before fortifying, thus guranteeing the disunity of two full continents until I'm ready to move on them. It's also helpful in that if you are attacked the initial battle (usually the major one) will be fought over a non-critical province.
Risk is all about controlling continents and stopping your opponents from doing the same. That in turn is all about patience and discipline. In Risk impatient players are reckless players, and reckless players are overextended players, and overextended players are dead players. ATCQ, by continuing the calm, judicious attitude that won us the last challenge, can again outflank our opponents and get another round of immunity.
The first game is at 10PM tonight, I think. Mind if I represent ATCQ?
I'll be there, too, for a while. We should talk about a unified strategy before then. Have talked to anyone about alliances?

I registered 'ATCQ' on the games server. The password is qwerty3898.
So, what happened with the game the other night? I can't access the server you're talking about, so I couldn't play, but from what I've seen, it didn't go off...
