Friends -

While we work to secure hotel accommodations (and then finalize the invitation), we wanted to invite the community to the 2009 California Double-Up, co-hosted by Azusa Pacific University and Concordia University, Irvine on Octobr 16-18, 2009. On behalf of Amy Jung, DOF at Azusa Pacific, her squad, and my squad, we welcome to you join us in sunny Southern California.

There are MANY opportunities for "mixing-and-matching" for competitors while keeping competition (almost exclusively) limited to one day per event-type. We offer two divisions (Opn/Nov) of all eleven AFA/Phi Rho Pi individual events, three divisions (Sr/Jr/Nv) of NPDA Debate and two divisions (Sr/Jr) of NFA LD Debate. The schedule (which is attached) is summarized below:

FRIDAY (at Concordia in Irvine) - 4-Round NPDA Tournament
SATURDAY (at Azusa Pacific) - 5-Round NPDA Tournament -OR- 3-round Individual Events tournament
SUNDAY (at Azusa Pacific) - 4-Round NFA LD Tournament -OR- 2-round Individual Events tournament.

The number of elimination rounds will be dictated by numbers in each event, but we anticipate finals in all individual events (with semifinals in many), Octofinals in NPDA debate and Quarterfinals in NFA LD Debate.

We look forward to hosting you. Please look for the complete invitation in the next week. We look forward to seeing many of you in Mid-October!

Since the tournament is about a week and a half away, I was wondering who's planning on coming. :)

This is a fun tournament that can be worth good points if you do well. Isn't this also where NPTE is located this year?

The second half of the swing is at APU, which is hosting the NPTE this year.

I can also promise that all policy resolutions will have an agent and a direction ;)

I think registration for the double up on forensicstournament.net is all wacky. Specifically, the Concordia half of the swing (California Double-Up #1) has entries up for LD, and IEs, instead of just parli like is says in the schedule. Then, on the Azusa half of the swing (California Double-Up #2), there is no LD, but there are IEs. Anywho, it is confusing me, and it might confuse other people too.

Pepperdine will be at the APU half of the swing with at least 2 Open teams.

Pretty sure PLNU closed out the first half...they had (I think) 3 of the semi-finalists and one of their teams beat USAFA in Sems for the closeout. Other teams clearing included UTEP (who made it to quarters, I think) and a UoP team or teams, and a few other squads. I'm really bad at this whole "remembering how the tournament went" thing.

Finals for the Azusa half of the swing was UoP CH over Loma NL. El Camino MM and Pepperdine KP were semi-finalists. Nicola Walters of NAU was top speaker.
