View Full Version : Forum for Invites
Is there any way we can have a break out forum for invitations to make it easier to comb through threads to find some pretty important information? Threads wouldn't have to be removed from on-case, but having a forum specifically for invitation and tournament information would be very helpful.

Danny's already working on that. We'll soon have an announcement of the location (I'm working on another redesign/upgrade of the site, and trying to fix a nasty template that's not working right!).
In the meantime, people might want to start changing all their cas.bethel.edu bookmarks to parlidebate.org ...

I know what you're talking about Michael, but I was hoping of just being able to log on Net Bens and quickly search for an invite. It really can't be that difficult to open up a new forum on the main site called Tournament Invitations now that the NB Calendar doesn't work.
Bump...Look at me...add a forum...it's easy to do. I promise!

If I add a forum, and no one reads it, does it make a sound?
That isn't a rhetorical question. Historically, viewership at forums other than the top three is close to zilch. I'm not seeing On Case as being horrifically active at the moment -- why not just post the invite there?

It gets somewhat difficult to search for the invites on On Case, especially after they've been buried under lots of other threads (like, for example, when a director posts an invite months before the tournament, as often happens). Searching for the host school name doesn't work well, because in most cases the name appears in many other locations. Just my two cents...

I belong to another online forum that has "child board" to address this kind of thing. There's a link at the top of the page - in this case one called "Tournament Invitations" - that you can click on, and then there are individual threads under that.
I agree that training people to look for tournament invitations somewhere other than under "On Case" could be a long and not-very-successful process, but I also agree that they need to be easier to find.

The problem isn't viewership. The problem is that invites are horrendously difficult to search through. If I search for an invite to UoP (for example), I have to also dig through results for every tournament UoP broke at, every tournament they are attending, if someone has UoP in their signature, etc. Adding an invite forum provides an easy place to put that stuff.
We used to have the calendar do that, until the move. I used it often to find tournament dates and invites. I'm just saying adding another forum for invitations only makes the forums cleaner and provides those looking for those invitations an easier way of searching.
