View Full Version : I am unsubscribing

Everyone has their breaking point. Mine just happened.

I am unsubscribing from Net Benefits. I will post all further opinions, announcements, and banter on debatecooperative.net. That site bans anonymous accounts.

Others are free to cross-post important information if they should deem it relevant, assuming Net Benefits continues to be the central locus of parli information.

I hope it won't be, though, because the anonymous posting is out of control. I appreciate the efforts of moderators to control it, but they're only human.

Goodbye, Net Benefits.

Matt Stannard

i don't think we've ever actually spoken, matt, but i'll miss you as a voice of reason on the forums. at the bare minimum i was a big fan of your eloquent defense of process DAs last week.

Matt is still an admin on Debate Cooperative (www.debatecooperative.net), which offers a comparable range of parli forums to NB as well as offering an expanded set of forums for political/current-events discussions and a large NFA-LD area.

The Debate Cooperative does not allow anonymous accounts and discourages personal attacks of all types. You all might want to consider adding Debate Cooperative to the web forums you participate in.

i'll add it, but the graphics on that page should be enhanced a bit. kinda hard to look at for too long.

still gonna be on net-ben, though. at least, as long as there's traffic.

As soon as a larger pool of participation grows, we will upgrade the software and redesign the site.

Is it just color you don't like or something else?

Because you could just move this discussion to the site in question or off case, I don't really know what it has to do with this thread or On Case

It has to do with a resource that is available to parli debaters and coaches. It is no different from a variety of other threads to be found in On Case, including the advertisements for the parli debate wiki pages. I would ask that the moderators leave it alone.

This is not a feedback item and it was inappropriately moved by a moderator. I would ask that an admin please move this thread back to On Case where it originated, where it existed for several days without objection, and where it served its intended purpose.

Dan, about a year ago you raised hell when one of your threads was moved out of On Case and into the feedback forum for what you perceived as arbitrary reasons. Are you yourself now claiming the right to do the same thing that you objected to when it was done to you?

It has nothing to do with debate, debate theory, or debate tournaments. It has to do with the site and how it functions. I also don't know what better constitutes "feedback" than "I'm leaving because of how the site is run." That it stayed where it didn't belong for a few days out of respect for Matt is no reason to keep it there.

I also left a redirect in place just so people can find it.

It will be interesting to see if you also move the several other recent threads in On Case that violate your newly rigid interpretation of the topic areas. I would hate to think that this was a case of selective enforcement derived from nothing more than a couple of moderators' longstanding personal vendettas.

I didn't touch your thread Jason. BTW in a years time people change their minds, its called learning and growing, you should try it some time.

Yeah, I just double-checked, and there are no other off-topic posts on "On Case" except a redirect in place announcing the birth of Matt's child.

And your martyrdom complex is still tiring.

"we are family" is the flip side of "I am unsubscribing", it is not?

And there is not martyrdom here, Joey. After our recent failed attempt at a reasonable discussion, I just think that if I said the sky was blue, you'd mumble something bitter about how I'm just not looking at it right. But I do not think that your alternately smug/snide/bitter attitudes harm me in any way, so its not "martyrdom" for me to merely observe various new instances and comment upon them. :)

I disagree, though I could see how one could reach that conclusion. One is specificially addressed to the debate community asking for more concilitory relations combined with specific actions about what we outght to do as debaters (fill out NPTE & NPDA surveys) whereas the other is an announcment that he's leaving 'cause of anon posters.

Way to derail a thread that had an actual purpose with some stupid ass bullshit argument

I disagree. I think where something goes actually matters. I think Jason's right insofar as if it's in the wrong place, it shouldn't be there. But we disagree about whether or not it is in the wrong place.

Minus all the ranting and raving about where this thread should be I have to say that I will miss Matt and his rants and our talks. While Matt and I disagreed alot we also found ways to agree on certian things. I joined his anti-war site not as an anti-war person but as who I am and we were able to discuss issues. I like to think we both grew as individuals in respects to our views on OIF and Noble Eagle.
Matt I will miss your voice and I may one day go back to the CO-OP to see how you are doing.
