<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Friends,
The proposed agenda for the business meeting of the NPDA in New Orleans is now available. Executive Secretary Renea Gernant will be sending it by US post to all members. You may also download it from the website at
www.parlidebate.org/agenda-fall2002.pdf (http://www.parlidebate.org/agenda-fall2002.pdf)
I am (sigh) still awaiting word from my contact at NCA about our meeting time and place, but this news could arrive at any minute. You will know almost as soon as I do.

Can one note that it is rather disturbing that the time and date have not been noted as we are now within 21 days (cheap rate to end) of the first day of the preconference and further that several institutions do not give funds for travel without proof of required meetings as per time, day, etc.? Thus, the notion that NPDA __still_ does not know when it is to meet is truly disadventageous to many, at least those members of the body who often plan to attend NCA but may now not be able to having missed the "you must get tickets within the cheapest zone" time period as required by several institutions.
Whoever is in charge of picking the day and time on our meeting-- the same meeting that allows us currently to make some rather important decisions-- is doing this organization no favors by stalling. No favors whatsoever. Their (collective or individual) procrastination sickens and saddens me.

I find it even more disconcerting that there is still ZERO discussion of the discriminatory nature of having a policy-making Business Meeting at a conference (NCA) that is only accessible to those who are in comm studies (and therefore eligible for institutional support) or who are wealthy enough to pay their own way.
Last time I checked, a large number of concerned people in the parli community are NOT comm majors nor are all the coaches comm teachers.

Again, and if anyone could forward the contact of those in charge of said decision, this certainly does not bode well for the image of NPDA and how it fits into the greater fabric of NCA. 'Kind of hits hard in the old credibility department.

Scooter & Jason,
Here's my perception of what's happened with the dates. Tom had requested a Friday evening date several months ago -- during the summer, as I recall. However, (AFA? NCA? I'm not totally sure) that request was not honored. So, NPDA is listed right now on Wednesday, which is worse for most people, since they're not even at the convention yet, unless they go to AFA meetings.
Tom has been trying to get that changed, and my sense is that he is frustrated with the "powers that be" that are preventing him from getting the Friday evening date that he has requested.
I'm not speaking on behalf of Tom here - but he can give you more details... feel free to e-mail him at tkuster@blc.edu.
Speaking only for myself -- and my own perceptions -- not officially.
