This is from the 2006 NPDA.
Matthew Plush – Southern Illinois University
Really, I’d strike me.
I would strongly, strongly suggest you not running “fact cases” in front of me. I do not understand how to
evaluate a world of competing examples that doesn’t include, what basically amounts to, me counting up all the examples
and seeing who has the most. If you want your rfd on a fact case to read: “12 to 3, I vote opp,” I’m the fact critic for
you.
I am pretty okay with most debates. I’m still new to judging, but I debated for four years in parli, I also did four
years of high school forensics which included both LD and (mainly) policy and some extemp.
I generally vote on the flow unless there is some very well argued reason why I shouldn’t –probably due to some
critical problem with that sort of view of debate/the world. I will try not to inject myself into the debate, but I think that
is, at some level, impossible. Ummm, I like when people are funny and having a good time.
Oh, if you’re looking for a list of positions that are “okay to run,” like if I’m “hip to the k,” well I guess most
arguments are fine, but I do have a pet peeve with people just making assertions and also with people not weighing
claims, positions, and the debate.
Please ask me any questions you have.
